ENGAGE Training and Mobility Grant Award:

Sarah Medland, Senior Research Officer,Genetic Epidemiology Unit, Queensland Institute of Medical Research, Australia

Sarah is interested in identifying genetic risk variants influencing neurological and psychological phenotypes. In conjunction with Cecilia Lindgren from University of Oxford (Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics) , she co-chairs the Laterality GWAS meta-analysis project which is focusing on the genetics of handedness a behavioural proxy for language lateralization. This project involves researchers from 36 cohorts and over 80,000 individuals. Sarah was awarded an ENGAGE grant to present the results from this project at the American Society of Human Genetics and the World Congress of Psychiatric Genetics. Presenting at these conferences led to the recruitment of additional replication cohorts and gave her the opportunity to discuss this work with many of the researchers working on the project.
